Dundalk Young Irelands G.F.C. "An Historical Record of the Green & Blacks" by Fr. John Mulligan S.M. Louth County Library, Roden Place, Dundalk. On Wednesday 8th December, 2004, nearly 30 years of work came to fruition when Fr. John Mulligan SM launched his book on the history of "Dundalk Young Irelands GFC - An Historical Record of the Green & Blacks". Fr. John set his mind to completing a book to record the clubs history in the late 1970's. He was however sidetracked by a request from then County Board Chairman Paddy Kenny to complete the history of the G.A.A. in Louth. This book "The G.A.A. in Louth - An Historical Record" was published to celebrate the association's centenary in 1984 and in 2001 he published an update titled "The G.A.A. in Louth - An Historical Record - The Centenary, The Millennium". The way was then clear for Fr. John to work on the project dear to his heart, and his "labour of love" was completed in conjunction with the clubs 120th anniversary in 2004. It was appropriate that the launch took place in the County Library as it was here (and in the old Chapel Street Library) that Fr. John spend many hours researching the history of the county's oldest club. In addition, the author interviewed many people associated with the club's proud history. The book also contains a wonderful collection of photographs and memorabilia compiled by Fr. John charting back to the clubs foundation in 1884. The book is an ideal Christmas present for all GAA supporters and especially families associated with the "Irelanders". Copies at a reduced price of €10 are available from club Secretary, Tony Hande Chapel Street (086) 8174083 or by emailing
