- DYI represented Louth in the first All-Ireland Final, played at Donnybrook, Dublin on April 29th, 1888 (this was the 1887 Final - delayed due to internal wrangling in the GAA !!). Result: Limerick (Commercials) 1-04 Louth (Young Irelands) 0-03
- If you look closely at the Louth GAA Crest, you will see the Green and Black of Dundalk Young Irelands GFC in the middle section. This is in recognition of Young Irelands historic role in Louth football.
- DYI won the first Louth SFC in 1887, beating Dowdallshill before 12,000 spectators at Haggardstown (there was slightly less than 12,000 at the 2003 Irelanders/'Hill game !! )
- DYI also won the first Louth Senior League, in 1903.
- 66 years after winning his first SFC in 1938, Leo Burns remains an active DYI committee member in 2004.
- Of the 1938 SFC winning team, Leo Burns grandsons Colm and Conor currently play U-16, while Aidan Sheehy (U-12) is a grandson of Jimmy Ross.
- DYI won 4-in-a-row of Cardinal O'Donnell Cups from 1938-41.
- Following 2 defeats in 1991 and 1993, DYI finally won their first Intermediate Football Championship in 1996. 4 players played in all three finals - Kevin Gorham (Capt.'96), Garrett Doyle, Paul Mc Ardle and Kieran Maguire (sub in 1996).
- In 1950, DYI achieved a unique double - winning the top 2 premier competitions (Senior and Junior Championship) in the same year.
- Joe Ward, a loyal Louth gael after whom the "Joe Ward Cup" (Louth SFC) was named was a former DYI player and Club Secretary (1907-08). He lived at Chapel Street, Dundalk until his death in 1948. The "Joe Ward" was first presented to Stabannon in 1949. Ironically, our current Club Secretary Tony Hande is also resident in Chapel Street, Dundalk.
- The Athletic Grounds, home of DYI and Louth football was closed in 1959 following its sale to "Hallidays" by Dundalk Young Ireland Society. DYI played at the Marist Grounds from 1960 to 1989 before moving to our current grounds at Upper Marches.
- The first senior league game (Cardinal O'Donnell Cup) in Pairc Eire Óg, Upper Marches was against Newtown Blues in 1989. Niall O'Callaghan, Bay Estate was the first DYI player to score at Upper Marches.
- On July 13th 1974, Louth won the Leinster U-14 Football Final at Croke Park. Eugene Mc Ardle (Full-Back) and Kieran Maguire (Right-Half Back) represented DYI.
- Gerard O'Connor representing DYI ws the first person from Louth to win an All-Ireland Scor na nÓg title when he won the "Instrumental Music" section of the 1974 finals. He made history again in 1975 by being the first Louth person to win an All-Ireland Senior Scor title. This was also in the "Instrumental Music" section.
- In 1978, Louth won the Leinster U-21 Football Championship. Seamus Haughey (Full-Back), Michael McCabe and Larry Goodman (Midfield) represented DYI.
- Following the SFC win of 1979, DYI accounted for Tinryland (Carlow) in the 1st round of the Leinster Club Championship. Walsh Island (Offaly) defeated DYI in the Semi-Final. Walsh Island included the famous Connor brothers who went on to win All-Ireland Senior medals with Offaly in 1982.
- In 1981, Louth won the Leinster U-21 Football Championship. Eugene McArdle (Goalkeeper) and Pat McConnon (Midfield + Captain) represented DYI.
- In 1999, Kieran Maguire was awarded the O'Gorman Trophy by Louth Supporters Club for dedication and commitment to Louth GAA.
Junior Manager, John McArdle is son of Jim Mc Ardle, former DYI player (1950 SFC) and All-Ireland Winner with Louth 1957.
